This just in from News 2’s Lori Mitchell:
Count 1 – Chad Crawford is guilty on misdemeanor, aggravated cruelty to animals – punishment up to 11 months and 29 days
Count 2 – unable to reach a verdict on intentional killing of an animal
– 10-22-07 – Trial begins for man accused of killing Gizmo
On count one, I applaud the jury. It’s too bad the maximum penalty isn’t a longer jail term. I do hope he gets the maximum allowed though. On count 2, I’m stumped. How can anyone think that attacking a dog they way that these individuals did isn’t likely to kill the little critter. I hope there is a second trial for count 2, if possible.
Is there any word on sentencing?
Sentencing is November 30.
Vince, did you watch the testimony? There must’ve been enough to the defense’s case to create a reasonable doubt.
I wasn’t able to watch the case. However, I don’t think reasonable doubt (if that’s the official term used in an animal abuse/murder case) was reached. I would think a verdict of “Not guilty” would have been the result if the jury determined there was reasonable doubt.
Anyone have any better info than that?
I just wanted to say I knew gizmo. My mom and I lived in Nashboro village before the incident. He was a cute little harmless dog, and didn’t deserve what happened to him. This man deserves the full extent of the law. Anyone who could do that is a monster.
