PROGRAMMING CHANGE: It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown was previously scheduled to air on WKRN-TV tonight at 7 p.m., but will now air Halloween afternoon at 3 p.m. so that we can bring you Titans on 2 Live with Jeff Fisher.
The Great Pumpkin vs. Titans on 2
Published: October 30, 2007Posted in: Family, Programming, WKRN
It greatly saddens me to know that WKRN would pre-empt a great holiday tradition such as The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown for a football program. The choice to move this great classic to 3:00 in the afternoon (when children are still in school) is disheartening. A good wholesome family oriented program is moved to a time when families are not at home, children are in school and are unable to enjoy this tradition together is a sad testament to how WRKN views family values. It is my hope that you will take into consideration the perception you are projecting to families in your upcoming programming choices.
well i love the titans, but i would rather see a family show that i’ve watched honestly every year from when i was a little boy. watching it with ur family is what these are for. but we cant do that at 3:00 in the afternoon now can we. so yeah. put it on tonight. DO IT, PUT IT ON TONIGHT.
thanks
I am disappointed, as well.
Good thing this show is so available on DVD and video now. We rarely need TV stations like yours for this or other family specials.
Your loss.
The fews joys left in the land of television are the holiday cartoon specials that enriched so many of our childhoods. It’s a sad state of affairs when a family program gets moved to a time when families are not even home in order for a station to broadcast a football discussion – not even an actual game – just talking – about football. Let’s send our kids the right message and make them more important than an overpaid coach discussing his overpaid athletes.
I am extremely disappointed. It’s a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is a show that I look forward to each year. Yes I am an adult, but I love it and it brings back wonderful memories. In fact, my daughter and her roommate at college were planning on watching it. As I work during the day (as do most people), 3PM in the afternoon does not work at all.
The Titans receive enough coverage from local media. I don’t think it would harm wkrn to move it to another time tonight after the Charlie Brown special. Can’t you pre-empt another show since you have control on when you air a local show?
That stinks! It is a family tradition to put up the last of the halloween decorations, carve our pumpkin and watch Charlie Brown! We can’t do that at 3:00 in the afternoon. I guess we will have to buy the video and forget channel 2!!
C’mon, News2, really?!
First it was the season premier of Dancing with the Stars, and the Bachelor. But to preempt the Great Pumpkin?
Look, I know you don’t want to mess with Wheel of Fortune based on earlier conversations with Christian. But what about getting creative with the Jeff Fisher show? Why does it have to be at 7pm? Why not, say 6? Skip 30 minutes of local news programming; it’s essentially a rehash of the 5 o’clock news, which is a rehash of the 4:30 news, which is a rehash of the morning news, etc. Since Titans on 2 is just once weekly, it makes logical sense to preempt those programs that are shown daily, as opposed to the one-airing only or one-airing-per-year shows.
I want to love you guys, but you make it ever more difficult with each IMO silly scheduling blunder you make.
The commercials that have been running to promote The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown have caught my children’s eyes and they are so excited. Unfortunately, they don’t understand that their cousins in Nebraska will be watching it, but they can’t. I’m really disappointed that you feel your audience prefers to watch another program about the Titans instead of a family show they can enjoy with their children.
I am highly disappointed that you are airing a football program over The Great Pumpkin the night before Halloween. Ridiculous. Whoever is in charge of programming must not have children otherwise they would’ve found a different time slot for Titans football. I just can’t believe the stupidity. Now my husband will miss watching the show with our children because like most people he’s still at work at 3 in the afternoon. So much for family traditions.
ABC has been promoting the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown for days. As a family tradition, we look forward to watching this show after carving our pumpkin and preparing for the Halloween festivities tomorrow. We are Titans fans at our house but never will football take priority over our family. It is sad that WKRN Nashville has made this choice. We will certainly remember this when we are trying to find family friendly stations to watch on evening television. And seriously, what child/family is going to be home tomorrow from 3-4 to enjoy this family show on Halloween afternoon? Jeff Fisher is no substitute for family time with Charlie Brown. Now I have to go explain to my 5 year old why there will be no Great Pumpkin tonight. Poor choice WKRN. Very poor choice indeed.
I was very surprised to see that WKRN had deceided show Jeff Fisher instead of The Great Pumpkin. But then when I started thinking about it, WKRN has made these kinds of decisions in the past, so it’s just history repeating itself.
A few years back the opted to show the Phil Fulmer show instead of show the opening game of one of the World Cups. Granted I know that the Orange Nation rules in this state, but they didn’t even bother to schedule a time to replay the game. There were several kids that I coached, and coaches and parents, that were very upset over that. Not to mention they initially said they would continue to show Phil over the World Cup. Luckily, someone with brains realized that might not be a good idea and it would be best to move his show, for a few weeks, to another time slot (when we’re showing the Bowflex infomercial or something critical like that).
The recent option of airing the Dancing With the Stars premier (this year I believe)at a lovely overnight hour when most people are sleeping was another one of their great scheduling moves. I know there were some very upset and irritated people in my office that day and the next.
Like one of the posters above said, I want to like Channel 2, but there are just to many reasons to change the channel.
I was so excited because this year my daughter is old enough to watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! with me. I have watched this every year since I was a child. We won’t be able to watch it because tomorrow at 3pm we will be at a party at her school. Since when did football become more important than family and traditions? My comcast schedule shows the show being on a 10:35pm–you know, since all children need to be up that late!!!! This show needs to be on in the evening so families can spend some time together. I don’t know that I will be able to watch Channel 2 anymore. I am just so disappointed.
Ditto, ditto, ditto. There’s really nothing more I can say that the previous posters haven’t thoroughly covered – but I wanted to chime in with my disappointment as well. We, too, missed this family classic tonight and will not be watching during school tomorrow. Does anyone actually watch the Jeff Fisher show, anyway??? Sounds more like material for a radio show, if you ask me.
I cannot believe that they moved The Great Pumpkin either. I am sure a lot more people would tune it to see The Great Pumpkin. I mean the Titans are great, but why not put the Titans on at 3pm? I rushed home to watch the special only to see highlights from Sunday’s game? At least Bones was on and they wore Halloween costumes. Maybe WKRN could run a Predators or Titans special during the Charlie Brown Christmas too.
This is irresponsible. The TV listings for October 30 listed The Great Pumpkin not at 7:00 but at 10:00 or 10:30. Which would have been fine as I set it to record on DVR. However, when I sat down to watch the recording on Halloween night with my children, the show that was run was “Sex and the City”. Unbelievable.
