The mother of a 12-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse after her severely bruised daughter showed up at a Columbia elementary school.
Police in Columbia, Maury County, said the child felt the school was a safe place and had run there to get away from her mother.
Once at the school, the child reported being beaten by her mother, said police.
She had severe bruising.
After an investigation by the Columbia Police Department and the Department of Children’s Services, the 40-year-old mother was arrested.
