Classes for Carroll County’s McKenzie Special School District will be cancelled tomorrow in favor of a high school football game in Murfreesboro.
Football, for a day, takes priority in the school system. It’s also on the verge of taking over the town.
The high school’s football team is playing in the TSSAA Class 1A BlueCross Bowl for the state championship in Murfreesboro at 3:30 p.m. It’s the Rebels’ first trip to a football title game and only the school’s second trip to a state championship.McKenzie (13-1) plays South Pittsburg (14-0), from about 30 miles west of Chattanooga, in Middle Tennessee State University’s Floyd Stadium.

Last year, McKenzie High School was listed as a targetted school under No Child Left Behind and failed to meet federal benchmarks for graduation rates. About 46% of the students are listed as “economically disadvantaged.”
C’mon, cut ‘em a little slack–they’re playing for the state championship. Besides, judging from the statistics, they ain’t l’arning that much in school anyways.
